South Park Flea Market

27 02 2008

I just love flea markets. It reminds me how me and my mom use to go every sunday. This Sunday, South Park Flea Market is letting a limited amount of people in for free. Now just think of the extra cash you will have to find some cool stuff. I just love a deal. There will also be … Phillip Dane interviewed by Angeleno Magazine for the March Issue, DJ Derrick Wize spinning beats that will have you dancing down the ailse, and yummy food to eat as you browse. Also  did I mention there will be free parking. You can’t beat that because everyone knows it’s a bitch to park in L.A

This Sunday March 2, 2008
9am – 4pm

Corner of 8th & Grand
Downtown Los Angeles

Same Sex and Single in the City

9 02 2008

By Philippa Medearis

The Grammy’s, Yeah yeah, Chinese New Year, Yeah yeah. Hold on, I’m going to be single, AGAIN (?!) for Valentine’s, I hear you scream.

Being single in LA is not as easy as it seems and being single and a lesbian brings two major issues. First, the greatly reduced population who are eligible to be hit on. Next, where are they to be found? So not to light a fire under your pants but this could be the last weekend to cop a date for the big night. And even then, if you manage to score, it begs the question – Does that mean I have to buy a gift for Valentine’s too? If you’re not prepared for that then maybe you should stop reading this blog, stay home, watch re-runs and make popcorn.

For those of you brave enough to read on here’s some ideas of where you could meet your next great love:

Girl Bar

661 N. Robertson Blvd.,

West Hollywood, CA 90069

www.girlbar.com

Even if you leave alone you’ll be in great spirits after leaving the ‘Comedy and Cocktail’ night, February 8. Before ten no cover, after ten $10. Sign up to the guest list online.

The Palms doesn’t have anything specifically Valentine related but it’s is has a fun and friendly atmosphere most nights and cheap beer on Wednesdays. To find them go to:

8572 Santa Monica Blvd,

West Hollywood, CA 90069

www.thepalmsbar.com

Cover $5 after nine.

For something more low key without the flashing lights and impending hangover try the South Park flea market. No relation to the cartoon, as far as I know. For this one you’ll have to wear your gaydar to sift through the eclectic collection of culture and art. Included in the mix is music and food - something for the soul, something for the stomach. Make it a date, and bring the kids:

8th and Grand

Downtown Los Angeles

www.southparkfleamarket.com

Every Sunday 9am – 4pm

$2.00 ($1.00 with Flyer or ad) Students w/ ID, kids under 12 & Seniors Free

Have fun! And for those of you who got lucky, stay tuned to read cheap gift ideas to buy the one you don’t really love!

Alternative Superbowl Fun

Alternative Superbowl Fun

By Philippa Medearis

If the Superbowl bowls you over with boredom, don’t fret, there are thousands like you, women and children first and there’s probably a few guys scattered around too.

Beer and pizza doesn’t cut the ice bucket for us all, so for the ‘Lets Go Out and Celebrate the End of the Football Season Fans’ there’s still a full choice of activities; from art and culture to dining (avoid the sports bars obviously who will probably be airing the Superbowl) and of course Venice beach is always open.

This event ends Feb 11, So this is your last week to see the man who made Louis Vuitton supercool.

POP!!!

26 01 2008

Enjoy a culture-filled night of browsing at abundances of original artwork with array of styles that won’t break the banks at Bagavagabond’s edgy art show, Art Explosion: Pop. If a night of bitchin’ art isn’t enough, be blow away by great low-rent films at the “5 for 50 film festival.” Make your own art in varies forms of live silk screening and photo booth that can mount on the wall. DJ’s Hatbox, Matter, and Brass Tacks provided rhythm and rhyme. Don’t worry about spending too much loot since a portion of the proceeds goes to “For the Arts” charity. Just think of it as your good deed for the year. Oh yeah there will be some free tasty drinks to make sure you have a popping good time.

Kesh-Dig This Style Icon

25 01 2008

Meet Kesh.

If you’re on the party scene, you’ve probably seen her rocking the joint.

Either DJing or just being the social butterfly that she is.

If not, you’ve probably seen one of her designs.

Because all the cool people wear them.

In any event, meet this real-life style icon. Not because she wears uber-expensive designer clothes, or is always up on the latest “it” bag. Truth be told, the bulk of her wardrobe “costs less than a large pizza.”

Kesh is a Citizen Du Monde style icon because in a world where the norm seems to be the mindless following of trends, she sticks out like a sore thumb painted with polka dots. She’ll throw on an outfit you wouldn’t dare wear, but it’s probably for the best because YOU couldn’t possibly rock it as well as she does.

And when she’s not “upstaging you hoes” she’s dressing the celebrity world. Kanye and Lupe dig her, as well as you should. Hot shit, as she’s barely old enough to buy liquor in the U.S.
So when/if you see Miss Kesh on the streets, in the club, or coming out of your boyfriend’s house, your best bet is to just do that little head-nod thing. Because a wise man once said:
Don’t Hate, Congratulate.

Let’s go Skiing this Afternoon

23 01 2008

Grab your  snowboards guys and gal’s because there will be a coll ski villiage in Beverly Hills. Yes I said Beverly Hills.  No hell hasn’t frozen over just  a little event thrown together by DWS Scudder, the U.S. retail unit of Deutsche Banks Asset Management division, who is  transforming The Via at Two Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills into the DWS Climate Change Ski Village today. This event is  kicking off  the nationwide road show in order to generate some press for the DWS Climate Change Fund. So what better way to get the word out then having a party with  Steve Akoi as the  DJ. This party is going to be mad fun. I can see it now, people  dancing, drinking and maybe a little snowball fights.

Tonight

Jan 23

11am-2am

2 Rodeo Drive

Beverly Hills, CA
