It’s the Weekend, What you going to do??

7 11 2007

I don’t know about you, but I know what I’m doing this weekend. Thanks to my girl Citi D, I’m on the list for all the Paper Magazine L.A. Paper Project Party. Believe me, I’m going to try to get my big butt to all of them. Greedy huh, but I don’t care. I will sleep when I’m dead. But since I’m alive and kicking, I’m going to have a ball.

But don’t fret my pretties, I have other parties for all you people who are not on the list. And don’t worry, I’m going to take pictures and tell ya’ll all bout my Paper experience.

Dissecting Los Angeles Climates
Thursday November 9, 6pm- Opening reception

An exhibition featuring three local artists Chris Avitabile (with OJO) Kiel Johnson and Christian Tedeschi.
These artists all met through A+D for a children’s workshop based on the idea of Crazy Clubhouses. The workshops met every Saturday through the month of August 2007. It was constructed around the principle that Architecture can be studied and experienced on many levels.
These workshops at A+D became sessions that the artists pushed potential and were fully engaged with each other’s creative processes. What was beneficial for the children became inspiration for each artist and their personal studio explorations. This exhibition speaks to this chance encounter.

Downtown is where it’s at!!!

11 10 2007

1254848261_l.jpg

Downtown is becoming a new hip spot to hang out in Los Angeles. With clubs and bars popping up, it’s a far cry from a few years ago when it was consider no-man’s land as people tried to get out before nighttime. More and more bars, boutique-drinking establishments and live music houses have either opened or undergone massive makeovers to appeal to the partying crowd. With all the revamping, Angelonos have stood up and taken notice. Now instead of trekking up to Hollywood or the Southside, you can just as easily head downtown for a little drinking, dancing and an all-around good time. Hipsters, Artists and the Hollywood crowd are flocking to bars like Edison,Library bar and La Cita, Best of all, since the drinks are a bit cheaper, it helps in the budget department. You can now focus on the good time you are having instead of the money being spent. Even as we speak , there are going to be new hot bars like the Doheny,Mercury Liquor and the Live at the staple center soon to be opening, Downton is going to be the place to be. So get in your car, bus, or metro link and go party downtown. Just watch out because it still a little dodgy’s.
Some notable place to drink at:

Bordello
901 E. 1st St
213.637.3766
Formally know as Little Pedro, but with a little make over came back with a vengeance. It still edgy, but now has more of a sophistication style. This bar clams to be one of the oldest bars in L.A. and is a favorite with the masses. Every night has a different theme from mellow swing a ’60s dance party put on by Club Satisfaction the first Saturday of each month.

La Cita
336 S. Hill St.
213.687.7111
lacitabar.com
Once a traditional Mexican bar transformed in to a dance club from the same owners of Short Stop in Echo Park. Monday through Friday, DJs spin rock, punk, ’80s, mod, soul and late-’90s pop, luring in blue-collar boys and Latin lovelies onto the dance floor. Traditional ranchero bands spice things up on Saturdays and Sundays. The bar is well stocked with top-notch tequilas for drinking connoisseurs.

Bar 107
107 W.4th St
213.625.7382
Formerly the Latino gay bar The Score, it’s now a cool hub for artists, loft-dwellers and USC grads. Happy hour is 3pm to 8pm daily, except Tuesdays when it lasts from open to close. Live jazz music on Monday and DJ’s supplies the beats Wednesday thru Sunday.

Rooftop Bar At the Standard
550 S. Flower St
213.892.8080
With a stunning rooftop view of downtown L.A, this trendy poolside bar is a must on you bar hopping list. But be aware, there are lines to be waited in as well forking over 20 bucks to enter the place we all read about. It might be easier to book a room to guaranteed entry, that’s if you can afford it.

Library Bar
630 W Sixth St Ste 116A
Los Angeles, CA 90017
Phone: (213) 614-0053
A classy joint to do a little drinking and reading. Sounds like good fun to me. Get’s busy after 4pm, so get there early or you will be on the streets.

The Edison
Second St and Main St
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Phone: (213) 613-0000
Classy speak-easy in the basement. One of the most swank place I ever been too. strict dress code, so make sure you dress fly

Seven Grand
515 W Seventh St
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Phone: (213) 614-0737

Whiskey lover’s will think they died and went to heavan. I mean how could you not like a place with a stag and deer heads mounted on the wall. There no dress code or cover, so how do you like them apples?
